El NINO

Ok...so I keep reading about everyone else still getting snow in March. Well last night it was our turn. We put bed sheets over our flowers before dinner and when we woke up this morning we had about an inch of snow!!!! We pulled the sheets off around 10am and the flowers were fine. The snow was melted by noon and we are back to our cooler than normal March temperatures.

bedsheets, huh? never knew that's what you're supposed to do. Seeing how I don't plant flowers, I guess it doesn't matter that I don't know that though :) I just told Craig that maybe we can go to Lowes (or as Joshua likes to call it, yo's) later today and get some flowers. I have no idea what I'll get but oh well, I'm sure I'll find something. When am I supposed to start seeds and stuff? Can I use an egg carton or what? What are some good hanging plants? Is it too early/cold to put those out?

Um...planting seeds, I don't have the patience for that. I usually by the starter plants and go from there. As far as hanging plants, I have used geraniums...but you have to get the kind that will over flow the pot and not grow straight up. Also, impatients are nice...but again, you want the kind that are like ivy. Both kinds need minor maintenance as far as pulling off the dead to inspire more flowering. You may want to wait a few more weeks for these...usually when you see them at the store it is a good time to buy. Geraniums are perennials, but I haven't had any luck keeping them alive through the winter. Lastly, if you want a low maintenance, high fragrance, but non-flowery hanging plant...Rosemary is a great one. You can then use the leaves for spicing up your summer chicken dinners. Mmm.
